A Day At Descanso

July 1, 2015 Radical Radishes
descansogardens

We took a trip to Descanso Gardens in La Canada, CA. We unfolded the Book of Nature and recorded our observations, perceptions, taking part in the celebration of the outdoor experience.

A Day at Descanso

by Odinn

The stones are wobbly,

The water is clear,

The fish are slow,

The frogs are fast,

The flies are too,

The trees are tall, and

The leaves are green.

Get Off the Phone (& Enjoy Nature)

by Sydney

We were sitting near the koi fish pond when I heard a teenager boy yell out to his parents and sister, “Get off the phone and enjoy nature!” Personally, I agree. The pond is full of wildlife, some I didn’t even know were there. There are often koi fish and snapping turtles.  But today we saw a once in a lifetime nature scene.  There were baby goslings getting into the water. They were delicate and fuzzy.  It seemed like anything could break them but I knew they would grow up to be strong and beautiful geese. They were very curious. There was one I named Curious George because he ventured from the group and swam right next to us. Unfortunately the daddy goose came along, who I named Bruce. Bruce was pretty scary.

A Beautiful Day in the Garden

by Ann elise

It is very peaceful in Descanso Gardens today. I can hear the water rushing. I can feel the breeze on my face. The birds are singing. The squirrels are chasing and the fish are jumping. It’s such a beautiful day.

Sometimes I look up at the sky and notice the sun peeking through the trees as it glimmers on the water. The tiny insy bitsy turtle and a rushing waterfall are the sights of nature.

Sometimes I look around me and see nature like squirrels, birds, bunnies, bees and butterflies.

Looking at the fish with beautiful scales, geese with their babies, turtles swimming in the cool water, baby turtles swimming to their dads, and dragonflies chasing each other through the cool breeze.

The baby geese I saw were very fluffy and were smaller than their mom and dad. They were orangish yellowish.  They had black beaks like their mother and father.  I often hear kids saying that geese can’t fly.  But I know they can.

My Surroundings

by Grace

I see three turtles climbing the lily pads

I see many koi fish

I see lily pads that are green

I see water that is peaceful and clear

I see trees swaying in the wind

I see bushes staying still

I see geese swimming in the cool water

I see gosling following their mother
